16 October 2006: The Dutch magazine Aktueel has placed NCRS board member and car freak Twan Baars in the spotlight
The weekly magazine Aktueel has a fixed column in which every week a different Car Freak is introduced. This week the lucky person was our Financial Officer Twan Baars and it was clearly stated that the Vette is his passion. The article states that the love for the Corvette started for Twan at an early age when seeing the TV series The A-Team. However it was only after he settled all what is needed for him and his family that he became the proud owner of a 1965 C2. Click here for the online version of the article.

The article includes some nice pictures of the C2 and Twans familly. A scanned version of the article can be found in the article section of the C2 registry (www.c2registry.org).

21 September 2006: Holland is two Split Windows richer
Two of the Dutch Chapter Boardmembers, Sander Ballegooij and Rob Musquetier, have fallen in love with the beautifull lines of the C2 and made sure that Holland became 2 uniek split windows richer.

Both gentlemen have bought a Daytona Blue Split Window and imported them by themselves out of the States. The Split Window coupe is a unique model which was only produced in 1963. The car of Sander is the oldest one of the two with an estimated birthday of 25th of March, Rob's car was born around the 2nd of July.

The car of Sander is an original 327-300 bhp car with the RPO's 4-speed gearbox, power steering, Am/FM radio and the original set of K-H knock-off wheels. These rims were available as of 1964.

The split of Rob is powered by a NOM engine and has the RPO's 4-speed gearbox, tinted windows, AM radio and rear differential. Based on the features found in the engine compartment it is likely that the car was originally produced with a unique FI engine.

Both owners are proud on their new members in the Vette fleet and they comitted to spend a lot of energy and time in the coming years to bring their cars back to original NCRS standards.

10 September 2006: Dutch Chapter Road Tour 2006: Castletour in the province of Utrecht
After the cancellation of the roadtour on the 10th of August, due to the bad wheather circumstances, the board decided the shift the tourdate one month forward to the 10th of September. Today we can only say that this has been a good decission, because the wheather was more then perfect due to the sunshine and an average temperature of 24 degrees centigrade.

The aim was to have a brief boardmeeting before the start of the tour so it was decided to meet around 10:30 am at Cafe Old-London in the city of Zeist. After an early start Andre was the first to arrive followed by the small convoy from North-Holland.

The parkinglot of Old-London was big enough for the rapid growing Corvette collection and within the hour some 14 vettes came together and their owners were enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. Due to the enthousiasm triggered by the big group of people showing up the board meeting was skipped and attention was paid to the explanation of the roadtour. The tour of this year was a castletour in the province of Utrecht which was provided to us by the Stingray '82 club.

Around 12 the engines were finally fired up and it became very obvious that the C3 of Fred produced the biggest amount of decibels. During the first stage of the tour our convoy leader was Rob in his C3 BB and after seeing some nice castles we stopped for a short lunch break.

During the break we enjoyed some nice foods and all of us took the time to get to know eachother a bit more. After 45 minutes the tour we continued the tour and now with Andre, in his fully body-off restorced 62 C1, as the squadleader.

The first castle we saw was Castle Sanderburg and here we grapped the opportunity to shoot some nice pics in front of the castle gates. After this brief stop we drove further on nice countryroads and some dikes to eventually end at the last castle. It was here that we almost ended with all the vettes on a ferry crossing one of our rivers. With some muscle (no powersteering) we could turn all the vettes around on the small country road and since Clemens and Piet needed to catch the ferry to get home we said goodbye to them with a Wave.

The final stop we made on a small town square where also an Alfa Romeo and Classic VW clubs had assembled themselves. The big surprise for the Dutch Chapter came from Han Clems with his donation of a limited edition production of a Grandsport Corvette from the sixties to the chairman. This nice painting will receive a nice place in the new clubhouse.

Around 5 pm we all turned back home.

A special thanks we can give to Birgit Baars who created a short movie of the tour, which can be downloaded from our website.

13 August 2006: Bridge added to the workshop
Yesterday Sander and Rob have placed the bridge which was kindly sponsored by Erik, Mike and Rob. This hydraulic lift is perfectly suited for working under the car. Also taking the wheels off is a piece of cake since these are not used to hold the car.

Nico kindly donated a compressor and a coffee machine so here thanks are on order!

We hope to enjoy many great wreching hours using this bridge!

20 June 2006: Many new Vette friends and a great accomplishment.....Flight 2006 Le-Mans
On the 13th on June it was finally the time, the Dutch Chapter departed to Le-Mans. At 5:45 am the first Dutch Corvette (C2 of Mike and Benno) departed from Noord-Holland to unite themselves with the C1 of Sander and Rene in the city of Zaandam. After 1 hour drive they arrived near Breukelen were the C3 of Rob and the C5-ZO6 of Erik and Andrea joined. After a short stop in Maarssen , where Han stepped into the C3 of Rob, we continued our journey in the direction of the Belgian border. Around the city of Breda Jan and his C1 joined and the Dutch Chapter convoy was complete.

The drive through Belgium ran smooth untill the C2 of Mike started to show some signs of engine overheating. After a short cool down and a refill of a considerable amount of cooling liquid (12 liters) the journey continued in the direction of Boulogne where our friends of the UK chapter where waiting for us. From the UK chapter 4 vettes and 1 MPV with the US NCRS Judges (Jack, Garry and Steve) joined and alltogether we drove further south.

After a nice night in Neufchatel the 14th was about driving a road tour through France. The road tour which was organized by our UK friends brought us through the scenic country side of France with as end-destination our Bed & Breakfast in Parcay-Les-Pins, about 40 KM south of Le-Mans.

On the 15th the cars of Sander and Rob underwent an official NCRS judging process and all in all the Dutch Chapter was satisfied to achieve a Second Flight (C1) and Top Flight (C3) status for the cars.

Friday the 16th we drove for the first time towards the circuit. The cosy chaos around the track made it happen that a part of the convoy lost track and with a detour we managed to arrive to Camp Corvette. After some walking around we drove back in the evening. In Arnage some of us enjoyed the incredible atmosphere where the big block of Rob and prototype C2 of our British friend Chris where eye-catchers. The rumbling sound of their typical V8's made the crowd located on the many terasses go wild.

Saturday was THE day and the race kicked off at 5 PM. Under the enjoyment of some beers and a nice barbeque organized by GM we enjoyed the race and made many new friends till late night.

The race was eventually won by the Audi diesels in the LMP class and CORVETTE in the GT1 segment. This victory was celebrated on sunday evening together with the drivers. On Sunday and Monday 2 groups of Dutch members arrived safely back in The Netherlands.

Flight 2006 to Le-Mans was a great success during which many new friends were met and a solid foundation was constructed for a further cooperation between the Dutch and UK NCRS chapters. Next year there will be definately a Flight 2007.
