First Dutch Chapter Road Tour 2005 (Limburg province)

Arrival at Autofit Urmond

After waking up at 7:00am, a quick breakfast and packing the last things in the car we took of at 8:30 from Sanders garage to head for the Limburg province.

During the trip we found out that Corvettes certainly don't like rain. I lost my wiper blade twice and had to improvise to attach them more firmly. Sanders right wiper stopped after the cable stop came loose. During one of the showers some drops also wet my pants near my knee...

At 12:00 sharp we arrived in Urmond at garage Autofit (who were to nice to offer our cars shelter for the night) to meet the other attendance of our first Dutch Road tour.

Admiring cars

After some refreshments it was time to inspect each others cars. 1x 230hp '59-er, 1x 290hp '59 (fuelie!), 1x 230hp '60 and 1x 245hp '60 were ready to put some miles on the odometer.

Shelter for the rain

Since it was heavily raining that morning we seeked shelter when we arrived to have some coffee and meet and greet.

Antonoi, who organized this tour, arranged an excellent lunch with buns and genuine 'Limburgse vlaai' !

Fuelie car (rear-shot)

This was our first encounter with a C1 fuelie so it was inspected from every corner.

Engine compartment fuelie (right side)

Look at that beautiful Rochester fuel injection unit. Ok, wrap it up, I take it. Don't bother with the gift wrap...

Fuelie roll bar (left side)

It looked like this car has had a previous life as a racer since holders for a roll bar were still fitted in the car.

2x4 barrel carburator 1960 Vette

Antonio's car has a 2x 4 barrel carb. setup. The car is still quite original and a good candidate for flight judging.

Line-up

A nice line-up for a photo opportunity! Notice the wet road which would be typical for the first day of our road tour.

Castle Els

A beautiful route was planned by Antonio visiting all kind of highlights of the Limburg country side. Here some nice shots at Castle Els.

On the road

A nice photo of during the tour taken from Sanders car.

Fame

The Heartbeat Corvette Club (HCC) organized at the same weekend a Corvette meet at Valkenburg. Ofcourse we included this gathering in our road tour to represent the NCRS. Here some pictures to give you an impression of the Dutch Corvettes out here...

The NCRS is present

Ofcourse we couldn't resist to advertise the NCRS to all these potential members. I think at least 3 or 4 new members will join our starting chapter as a result of our presents at this excellent Corvette meet.

Valkenburg ruines

From the fareground you have a good view on castle Valkenburg.

Other cars

Also some other US cars were on display. Here an excellent restored Olds with suiting caravan.

Time for drinks

Since it was a hot day (although we also had some light rain it was time for some refreshments. Bring on some of that excellent Limburg beer (just one each because we had to continue our road tour soon).

We have a winner

While we were walking the fairground the jury appearantly figured out that NCRS cars are not bad indeed since Sanders car got a first price for best C1 present at the meet!

Imported C1 ?

While admiring other C1's present we found this car with an KPH sign in its odometer. We were wondering if this was an original imported car. Any thoughts if this is correct?

Belgium car

Another C1 was visiting from abroad. We think it was a Belgium car (with dealer plates). A very nice black '62 car.

American cemetary

President Bush recently visited an American cemetary in Limburg. We also included this monument in our road tour. Some shots to give you an impression of this remarkable place.

8000+ men

More than 8000 soldiers are buried at the cemetary. Most men not even 20 year old when they were killed in action...

We thought it was a suiting salute to these men to visit them with these amazing American cars the day before Independance Day!

Battle overview

A permanent display is setup showing the West European area during the war and the displacement of the Allied, German and Russian troups.
